The School Day.

Timetable.

One of the biggest changes, when moving from Primary school to Secondary school, is that your child will not have all their lessons in the same classroom, they have to move rooms for each class. Your child will be given a timetable which they must copy into their organiser, please make sure they do this to avoid confusion when it gets lost. The timetable details where and when each of the subject classes are and they will quickly get used to the routine.

Homework.

It is important that pupils starting Prestwich Arts College understand that homework will be set daily and that deadlines must be met. This allows teachers to assess pupils' understanding on an individual basis, as well developing a pupil's independent research skills and self-discipline. Parents can support our efforts by checking their child's Personal Organiser on a regular basis.

Study Studio.

School offers the opportunity to work in a supervised, resourced manner in 'Study Studio'. This runs after school in Room 5 and the Gateway Suite 3.15pm - 4.15pm every evening except Mondays. This is a purely voluntary facility unless homework completion becomes an issue, at which time the pupil concerned will be directed to attend.

Lunchtime.

Lunchtime arrangements are usually a big change from primary school, Year 7 students are not allowed to go home for lunch. For the first few days they are given extra time to get used to the system and there are several ways in which food is available: a) by pupils bringing their own food which they may eat in one of the cafeteria rooms. They do not need to queue if eating their own packed lunch b) by pupils using the cafeteria system c) by pupils using the snack bar A wide variety of foods are available from both the cafeteria system and the snack bar. Our school council chose the kitchen operators themselves, 'Mellors' were selected following an exhaustive sampling and selection process. Please note that snacks (eg toast etc) can also be purchased during morning break.
